Steelhead Paparazzi on the Wallowa?? Thursday, March 25, 2010

Tom and I went for one final day of Train Access Steelhead fishing on the Wallowa River on Tuesday. Wow, what an incredible day. We caught 15 to 20 Steelhead between us and got sunburned to boot. There was one very unusual aspect to our day. As we stepped off of the train there was this a crowd of people with Huge cameras waiting for us. Paparazzi on the Wallowa? It looks like the Wallowa River Steelhead are experiencing their 15 minutes of fame. So if you head out on the Wallowa this Spring, beware of those flashes coming from the bushes. You may find yourself on the cover of the National Inquirer.

Hello! I am a college student looking to get into some of this action while im back in Eastern Oregon for spring break. I am without my fly rod right now so I am restricted to spin casting this time around. So I was just curious what area I could look into for getting into some fish without a fly rod and what is working? jigs/bait etc...Thank you for your help
You can use a spinning rod and jigs anywhere on The Wallowa River. It seems like the fishing has been substantially better the lower down below the State Park you get. I would say pack up your gear, wade across the Wallowa just below Minam State Park and hike down the tracks until you find a good hole. Give me a call if you have additional questions. 541-432-0747
